Have you used your Visa, MasterCard, or Diners Club credit/debit/ATM card overseas during the period of 1996-2006? If you did you were hit with a surcharge (1%-3%) just for the 'privilege' of being able to use your card internationally. Well, some folks didn't think that was right and sued the credit card companies responsible…and they won! So now it's time to claim your small portion of the $336 million settlement.
All you have to do is visit http://www.ccfsettlement.com and choose one of three options for how you'd like to tally up the total owed to you. Most people will pick the first option, which is a quick and simple $25 check. Fill out your personal information and enter one of the credit card accounts that you used overseas. They will give you a case number and send a packet in the mail to the address you entered. Visit the web site once more, fill in your claim number (printed on the packet), verify your information, and voila! You should get your $25 check…well…sometime…
From the CCFSettlement.com Site FAQ Page:
When will I receive my settlement?: Refunds will be paid after the Court finally approves the settlement, and approves any award of attorneys' fees, awards to the class representatives, and allocation of the settlement fund among Settlement Damages Class members, and any appeals related to that approval are resolved. It is possible that this could take several months, or, if appeals are filed, several years. You may want to check this website from time to time for updates.
Oh well, better than never I suppose. On a side note, if you spent some major cash overseas (more than $2,500) it may be worth it to dig up old statements (if you still have them) and itemize each purchase made. You could stand to receive a bit more back than just $25 (1%-3% of total purchases back, depending on which refund option you choose).
