  1. CNN posted an article on how banks train their customer supports representatives to oversell things like loans and credit cards in order to boost profits. They are specifically trained to hunt for clues in what the customer is saying (e.g. "I have to send my son to college" or "my car is not running") in order to find a weak spot to push upon to convince them that they need an unneeded line-of-credit or loan.
